With the sub-par fishing this last i week i was a little nervous for the derby, but the fish gods were smiling down on the little black livie on saturday!
Trying to beat the crowds I was at the boat launch and in the water by 2:45am. Rseas had launched the night before so we sat and talked kokanee for a bit, Bassplayer17 (tony) soon motored up to the dock as well. @ about 3:45 i ventured out to see if i could catch kokanee in the dark cause i have never done it before. charged up my glow spinner and sent it down to 30 feet.
4:15 am my first kokanee is in the boat!
4:30ish second fish is off at the net
4:50 second fish was in the boat
I was pretty excited! As the sun came up i was suprised at how many boats were on the water, but ever ones established a trolling pattern and it was easy to navigate the lake. between 530 and 7 i managed to boat 2 more fish and lose many more, including what im assuming was a huge trout cause i never got to see it, but it has a dodger now dangling out of its mouth. After fishing slowed in my usaul spot i ventured out into the middle of the lake and my 5th fish was in the boat. Then about 10:30 my sixth and final fish for the day hit the net. Lost three more after that. called it a day at 11:30.
I ended up messing up at the wiegh in and did wiegh my biggest fish, figured that out when i got home and laid them all out and used the scale. My wiegh in entry was 1.21 pounds and my biggest fish was 1.53. I was on the board for a while for the gamefishin memeber bracket. but was knocked off at the last minute. Overall it was a great day, i robably didnt go more then 30min without a bite at anytime and got to fight alot of fish, just didnt get to put them in the boat! Looking forward to next year
