Headed to tapps with my son. First time on the water at this lake. He's fallen in love with bass fishing so I've been tryin to find him some! We had to fish on and off through the rain down pour which was a total bummer. He managed to catch the first one, a dink on a spinnerbait next to dock. I like the structure of the lake, rocky. I couldn't find any weeds on top? I got the second fish on a senko from dock (pictured) that went probably 2 and a half. Caught third one between docks, another dink. Lots of time scoping the lake as with all first time lake fishing. We were soaked and called it a day after 4hrs. Bummed I haven't been able to find "the spot" for him yet. He loves catchin bass. Always nice to get on the water though and managed the one decent fish. Tough conditions, fish seemed really spread out.

Welcome to Lake Tapps. It's a great smallmouth lake. The smallies do scatter on the shorelines during spawn, which is now problably in its last couple weeks. If you want to find some good shorelines to fish go to the topo map of Tapps on this site. Put your cursor on lakes in the above tool bar, then scan down and click on lake maps. Then find Lake Tapps. A gentleman was kind enough to mark some of the better shorelines to fish. After the spawn many of the smallmouth will begin their transition out to deeper water along steep drops and ledges in 17 to 30 feet of water. The nice part of fishing deep is, unlike the shoreline where they scatter, when they go deep they often school up on stumps and rocky areas. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice rickydbasser! One thing I forgot to mention was when entering the park (north side) launch, the pay station said "closed" and I didn't have to pay? Is this normal?

Usually the pay station is closed and launching is free from when the park opens on April 1st until Memorial Day weekend, though I have seen it open on a warm sunny weekend in the past. From Memorial Day weekend on through Labor Day weekend it is usually open 7 days a week, right from the time the park opens at 6 am till closing. Then after Labor Day weekend until the park closes for the winter on September 30th the booth is once more closed, and launching is free. I wished it stayed open until the end of October. Smallmouth fishing is still going strong when the park closes.
