Good looking early season bass..

Nice Largemouth Nik! Damn, Deer Lake has been hard on me this year! I've been seeing some giant Bass (LMB & SMB) @ Deer this year chasing my baits. But the amazing water clarity here(up to 50 ft.) makes it really easy for the Bass to reject lures, because somehow in using their little pea-sized brains they know something isn't right. At this lake I've noticed low-light situations- overcast, daw/dusk always seem the most productive. The Smallmouth have been tricky, that hot-ass weather we had stopped too abruptly & with night temps dropping from the high 60's to below freezing in less than 2 days it really put the Bass in a funk. It screwed up the start of the Smallmouth spawn for sure, water temps crested in the upper sixties & they were bloodying their tails making beds, but within 2 or 3 days after we had daytime highs in the low 90's the water temp had dropped back into the high 40's ;(

For some reason the lake is even clearer than normal this year which makes it even worse. I have yet to even see a smallmouth; they must be out in 60 foot of water.
