Went out with Glenn to catch some crappies on Long, yes I know it is actually lake Spokane but in the 8 years I have lived here I have yet to hear anyone call it that. I was the designated catcher for the day and just like on the Arm the day before it began with thick fog. After launching we slowly motored down to a fallen tree and immediately starting catching crappies. Once the fog started to lift we headed down river to a couple of our favorite areas and caught more crappies plus a few perch and a few smallies. In one bay I caught about a 3 lb large-mouth on a crappie jig, good fight on a crappie rod. For the day we caught about 38 crappie and kept 26 for Glenn and his brother in-law James to eat, again I was just a designated catcher for the day. Also talked with Scotty509 as we passed by each other. He was out bass fishing some of the same docks we were crappie fishing. The cold front this past week definitely slowed down the bite but it was still a decent day of fishing. Small crappie jigs around downed trees and docks worked the best, the lighter the jig the better. Tip it with a 2 in chartreuse power grub or a 2 in white/chartreuse power minnow. Most of the time we just skipped the jigs under the docks but sometimes it required a bobber just sitting next to the structure. It was a good weekend of fishing but it did come at a cost, I broke two rods and lost a rod and reel. Time to look at the clearance items to refill my tackle I guess.
