Nice fish, hein19......wish I could help on the cat fishing. I can tell you that past experience for me, fresh chicken livers have never failed me. Good catfish hook and decent weight....can't beat terminal tackle. Anyways, you'll get big cats on chicken livers....but the bullheads will go for it also. I have been looking also for the cats in this state and there are a few lakes that have channel cats....but the Columbia has pretty big monsters in it...big channel cats, blues....

If you find a good lake for cats, let me know too! Love the lazy fishing for them...especially after dark!

Good luck!

Ive never had luck with chicken liver on the west side. In this lake I did great with night crawler 3ft under a bobber in 8-10 ft of water. I had my best luck near the channel at the south end of the lake and at the boat launch. Hope that helps.

Westside lakes? I know plenty of Eastside ones. Sorry, but the fish and Wildlife site has listed species per lake, and you can do a county and or species search. When the Government does something right, use it!
Cut bait and even spinners work well, and the closer to night the better. Use scent. Commercial baits are pretty lousy on average, at least in my and my friends' experiences. Take a panfish fillet or scrapfish other than carp, about an inch to 2 inches long, and 3/4 wide, with a slightly narrower end toward the hook. Slip sinker, bobber, and the darker the day, or night, the shallower you fish. Night fishing is best, just check the regs and don't get mugged!

Wanted to put my 2 cents in. I have found over the years what the best bait is. MACKEREL!!!! If you can find it whole, like at a 99 Market or something like that, there is nothing better. The oils in the meet milk heavy but nice and slow. The best way to rig is with an egg slip sinker, a foot of 10-15 lb. leader as they are not line shy, and a large treble hook at the end. Bend the trebles out a little for better hooking. Take the mackerel and slice a 1"-2" wide strip from the top of the fish to the bottom of the fish, about 2"-3" long. Rap that skin side in and flesh side out around your treble hook imbedding the hooks through the skin side first. This is a killer bait I discovered fishing cats from So. Cal. to up here. There is a recipe I know as well using oatmeal, anchovies, and yeast if you are interested. You let that ferment in a mason jar for a week or two, dip the mackerel in it just before you are ready to cast and you can't go wrong. 2 bits of advise though. Be careful when you cast it or you will get a chunck of the anchovy/oatmeal on ya which if you are fishing with your gal at night, is counter productive and if you do the mixture do not, I REPEAT DO NOT close the lid tightly... You will never experience anything more counter productive at home (and in the bedroom) than a mason jar full of this stuff exploding in the house... Good luck!!!! LOL

Cassidy is full of brown cats. Let the chicken livers sit out for a day but don't let them dry out. In about 8-10' of water. Hang it 30-36" off a bobber. The southeast corner was the best spot. Hope that helps!
