I took the kids down to Silver lake in Snohomish County to do a little fishing on Friday. They had both been at the kids fishing derby earlier in the year and have a taste for fishing now. Each of us had the following set up: 1/4 oz. slide weight on top of a swivel. Attached to the swivel was a 3 foot leader with a #10 Gamakatsu hook. We used powerbait pink eggs for bait. We fished off the high dock on the East side of the lake across from the intersection of 116th and 19th.
We started fishing around 1:30PM, cast a few times to get our spots, and then settled in. We fished for about an hour recasting a few times. Neither my son or I caught anything or had any hits. My son was impatient and wanted to cast more than he really wanted to fish. Towards the end my daughter thought her line looked funny so she started reeling it in. It wasn't coming in at all and I thought she had gotten stuck on a snag or wrapped up in the milfoil. After some tugging she finally got it to come and low and behold there is a fish on the end! I didn't have any expectations so her catching a fish made this a good day. The fish was around 10" and looked like one of the young stock fish.
I haven't fished myself since I was a kid so if anyone has any tips or hints for fishing Silver Lake, or the Skykomish, I'd love to hear them.
