Ok I have been sworn to silence for this lake due to the limited space for parking and it would be very frustrating for anyone to make the trip and have to turn back. Now with the park opening next week I will do posting. I have the luxury of living less then 5 minutes from here so have had to make a few round trips without even launching the boat as was the experience yesterday. That being said, not sure what parking will be like when it opens but most people that visit the park don't respect the trailer lanes that are there, so many times you have to detach the trailer from you rig to even park.
Now to my report from over a week ago! Was fortunate to get home from work in time and get to Angle to find only 1 trailer along the fence; so lauched the Tin Cup at 7pm for some twilight Koke fishing. Now the lake has also dropped quite a bit so you have to be careful launching as the ramp ends and then your trailer drops into the sand; anyway made the careful bump off and was on the water by 7:15.
Started along the south side in about 40' of water and ran one down rigger and one long line with both set up with pink splatter dodgers and mini hootchies that I had re-tied with a stinger #14 treble hook on it tipped with gulp maggots. Wind was blowing pretty hard so was hard to keep the boat steady but kept at it and had the rigger at 28' and an ounce and quarter lead on the long line. Made one pass without a bump and as I was heading back towards the launch the down rigger starts dancing and it's fish on!! Made sure to bring it in slow and it made a few leaps into the air before bringing into the net and boy have these fish grown! Nice fat 14" er and was only hooked by the stinger! I am a believer now!
By 8:30 had gone 3 for 4 which is much higher ratio then I am used to so made a note to self to re-tie all my kokanee leaders and add a stinger hook!! haha!! I am in CA for a week so won't be back to the evergreen state until after the 1st but am going to do a little lingcod fishing off the Big Sur coast on Wednesday with my old buddies who are still around and use some of the techniques I have learned here in WA to try and get some of those toothy predators!
