I have to say I was so excited to hit Long Lake it had been a while since I've fished this wonderful body of water. Seen numerous good reports and mine will be good as well.
Hit the water around 530pm and noticed not nearly as many pleasure boats as I expected. WIN #1! Took off to one of my favorites smallie spots that the other couple times I've been out this year hadn't produced. BAM 4 Fish in 35 min and all really good ones. SMB were hanging right on the current edge and pounding our tubes. Dark colors worked for us but any sort of Crawfish imitation I think will work. One of the SMB spit out a partially digested Crawfish right at the boat so we knew we were matching the hatch. 19.5 and 17.5in on the two big ones at this spot one just over 3lbs and one just under.
The current died and so did the fishing on that spot so we ran around the lake and tried some other spots and tried to put some LMB in the boat. Caught fish on almost every spot we stopped and really no dinks today the small ones were 13inches.
Found a great looking dock and threw right up against a piling and it sank to the bottom. I hopped it twice and WHAM fish on! This dock didn't have many weeds so I saw him early on and man was he ticked off. Line was peeling off my reel and tons of head shakes. Luckily I had just retied my line and put a new jig inside the tube. Landed him and he was buttoned up nicely no way he was getting off. He came in at just about 20in and 3lbs 14ozs.
All told the both of us caught 10 fish in 4 hours with our best 5 coming in just under 15lbs. All fish released after their photo op!
