My son Grant was home for a visit from Los Angeles and really wanted to go fish at Silver Lake. It looks like he is learning the same leasson that many young men before him have. Whatcom County isn't that bad of a place after all.
We had a nice time fishing the boys scout camp end of the lake. We hooked into 11 fish, 3 of which where nice rainbows in the 14 inch range. I do believe the others where perch, averaging around 6 inches long. Most of the fish where caught towards the surface. Nothing was hitting down low, the fish finder showed fish on the bottom, but, they where not interested in Wooley Buggers. We had the best luck trolling a green wooley bugger, rigged blue collar style with a smile blade, (Thanks Uncle Wes) on a spin casting reel instead of sinking fly line with only two small split shots for weight. This would put the fly down only a couple of feet. I didn't think to try rigging up using a dry fly line.

Bottom line a father and son enjoying a nice morning of fishing.
