In a last minute whim.I decided to hook up the boat and venture up to Bumping lake to see what the Kokanee was like this year.I arrived around 1 pm or so.Not an ideal time for kokes but then again I just needed to get out of the house being that I only get one day off this week. These last minute trips seem to always make me forget to bring something, and today it was maggots.Oh well I had gulp ones and some nightcrawlers which got me by ok.I started out in my normal spot at the upper most end of the lake with a shasta herringbone uv swingblade flasher(pink) and a small homemade wedding ring spinner with gulp maggots on the front hook and a pinch of worm on the back. Not alot of action in this spot just a couple of 9 inch kokes which are typical heres so I moved down about a quarter of a mile or so and dropped the downrigger back to 25 ft and right away I started getting action. This time I couldnt keep the little boogers hooked up all the way into the boat.Swapped out my hooks on my rig and proceeded again this time I had better results.I have to admit the okuma sst kokanee rod (7'6") is one of the best rods for the buck and here it worked awesome.I had one of the 7 footers too but it was a bit too whimpy for me the 7'6" is much better(I caught a 6 lb german last year at Park lake with it)I pulled the boat out around 7 or so and headed back to yakivegas with a few kokes for the smoker. Not lights out fishing but it did scratch my itch at the time

Thanks for the report, I've been thinking of a camping weekend at Bumbing Lake. Would be more interested in catching some Rainbow trout, any info would be appreciated, THANKS!

Like hearing these reports. I have caught some nice Bumping rainbows in May but got snowed on in the process. Agree that you have to work for the fish in Bumping Lake but makes it fun. I have had luck across the lake on the South side from your hot spot #1. Just to the east of the big rock slide. The last time we did really well in that spot the game department pulled up in a boat and checked us. I think we were the only 2 boats on the lake. They were really surprised when we showed them our fish and they said they were likely plants from the previous year. I will give Bumping a try again in June 2017. Good Fishing.
