Hit Bitter lake early morning (0600) with my dad. I was in my float tube and he brought his pontoon boat with an electric trolling motor. I latched on and we trolled spinners, rapalas, etc around the lake without much luck. Finally, around 8:30am we marked a bunch of fish along the north east side of the lake sitting close to the bottom in 10-12ft of water, about 2-5ft from the lily pads. Tied on some night crawlers and tossed some spinnerbaits. Hooked a few small rock bass on the spinnerbaits. Nothing on the worm. Decided to troll some wooly buggers with a spinner in front of them (pistol pete). Hooked one 12" trout. Just as I was reeling in my nightcrawler on my other rod, I saw a good size fish following the worm up to the surface. I stopped reeling 5 feet from the front of my float tube and the fish took the worm. It was so close I could have kicked it! It peeled quite a bit of line off my ultralight reel making a couple nice runs, including two nice jumps (one 30 feet in front of us and again 20 feet behind us). He was all over the place! Finally, I got him brought in and had to use the net to land him. Definitely the biggest trout I have caught in this lake! Weighed in at 2lbs 10oz and just over 17". Brought him home and grilled him along with the other 3 smaller trout I had caught a couple days prior. All of them had good pink color and tasted good, but the big one had lots more fat content and deep reddish color to the meat. Good eating for sure!
