Cloudy morning. Started off in shallow water. Nada except for the millions of perch. Started going out deeper. Kept catching perch on my swimbait and crank. I make my way out into 15-20' of water and I finally get a bass. Just a dink on a tube.
So I start working the area and see if I could locate anymore. Got another 1 on a tube. A little bit bigger, maybe 10", lol. But it was super skinny. I see it's right eyeball is injuried. Must be recent because it looked fresh. Wasn't me.
The tube was the hot lure of the day. I get a decent bite and feels heavy compared to what I've been hauling in. A fat 13" or so. 1lb4oz, lol. Biggest bass of the day. I get to a deep point with wood laydowns. ~20-30'. I burn a crank and caught a couple of dinks SMB.
I was thinking to myself, I haven't seen too many squawfish this year. Then it happened. Caught 3 today, lol. 2 on a crank and 1 on tube. Pretty big one on the tube. Probably 17-18". I saw an eagle swoop down and took one of them for lunch.
I had something really nice on my crank. It would have easily been big fish of the day. But it came off halfway to the boat. I'm not 100% sure it was a bass though. Could have been a big squaw. All I know is, it was a biggun.
So 5 bass, 3 squaw and countless perch. I used 1 tube the entire time. It landed a total of 8 fish before I retired it.
I tried the Carolina-rig today, but wasn't successful. My new combo is still fishless. Was dragging a grub from 25-35' deep without a fish. I did get a couple of machinegun nips on it.
Highlight of the day was watching some baller take off in his helicopter from his backyard, lol.
