I figured that it was about time that I post another report so here it is!

Recently, I have been keeping 2 Pen Rods and some very light tackle in the trunk of my car to take advantage of those short, unexpected 30-60 min opportunities to fish. I actually fished lake union for about 30 minutes on saturday the 27th and about 2 hours on sunday the 28th.

On saturday, I caught 4 smallmouth in the short 30 minutes that I was there. With 6 lb line, a pen rod, and loose drag, these hard fighting smallies really take you for a ride! All of them pulled drag, made several runs, and gave me exciting, thrilling fights! The first one I caught was probably about half a lb, the second was about 1.5 lbs and the third was about 1 lb.

On sunday, I caught 4 smallmouth and 2 rock bass in the 3 hours or so that I was there. A couple were right around 1 lb with the biggest being about 1.5 lbs. When I first showed up, there were a few people already fishing in the same area. One person watched me as I was setting up my pen rod and laughed. Then proceeded to tell me that there was no way that I was going to catch anything with it. In the first 15 minutes, I caught 2 smallies and a rock bass. This person then got very angry and started muttering obscenities. I asked how long he'd been there and how many fish he caught. He responded with several hours and no fish. Then he immediately packed up his gear and left while muttering more obscenities. If he had simply greeted me with the usual "hey, how's it going?" I would have been more than happy to give him some pointers on how to catch fish at this particular spot. Fishing with a 3 ft leader under a bobber with a piece of worm isn't going to work when you cast into deep water in an area with heavy boat traffic. I thought that was common sense but apparently not.

Drop Shot + Small Finesse Worms with the proper presentation and action = Fish landed. Produces for me year round! Can't go wrong with soft plastics in Green Pumpkin for both clear and stained water. Tight Lines Everyone!

I have a short video showing the fish from saturday before releasing them (Filmed 3 of the 4 released before my camera battery died). Didn't have my hatcam but you'll want to check the video out just to see how absolutely beautiful the second smallie was! Never have I seen such distinct patterns, stripes, and coloration on a smallie! Truly gorgeous!

Enjoy! Tight Lines!

I have always wanted to fish here but not sure where I might be able to from the shore. Do you have tips as to where one might find a decent place on the shore to fish?
