Back in town. Finally got time to get out on the water. Been a few weeks. Had a dentist appointment in the morning, so I didn't get out on the water until about 3PM. Bright blue sunny skies. Water temp 77 degrees. Lots of boats out on the water. Lots of rigs parked, but launching is quick thanks to all the available lanes.

Tube, crankbait and dropshot was my setup today. I had a C-rig setup but was too lazy to actually use it.... :o

Anyways, 1st hr, I was getting tons of perch. I figured with the condition, the bass would be either under docks or deep. I tested several docks and was getting raped by the perch. A lot of people were out in their docks too playing around, so I started going deeper. Out in 18-20' of water and you feel that constant rapid nipping.

Now I'm out in about 15' of water and fan casting around a point. I was a solid strike on a deep diving crankbait. It fights for a few seconds and just drags. FFFUUUU, yep, squawfish it is. Pretty good size one. 16-17". Time to feed the eagles...

I go across the lake to the west side. They have a lot of deep docks, so I started trying them out. Nothing for a while. I actually didn't even get any perch nipping for the first 15 mins... Didn't take that long to find them. Anyways, it's 6PM now and I'm thinking, it should be getting close to prime time. I make a cast with my dropshot out in front of a deep dock. About 23' of water. I get a text on my phone. So I'm looking at my phone when I feel weight on my rod, lol. Lift and fish on! ~15" SMB.

I thought I was onto something. Deep docks and let the bait soak. Bah, couldn't duplicate it.
Lost several tube jigheads on who knows what. Lost a couple of my dropshot setup. Spent more time retying then fishing.

Frustrated, I boated away to a spot where I've caught SMB before on a point. Work around the point in 10-12' of water and not much happening. I work my way out into deeper water and away from this point. I'm now in 14' of water and casting into 17-18' of water.

Rotating between lures. I'm now on my trusty tube. I let it sit for several seconds then hop and slide the lure and sit again. I feel a take and set the hook. Felt like an ok fish, but it's swimming directly towards me so I couldn't tell right away. Then it changed direction and it felt like a better fish. It's staying down but very active, so I was confident it was a SMB. I get it closer to the boat and confirmed it is a SMB. About 17" @ 2lb 5oz.

I get back to my spot and make a couple of similar casts. When you find one, you usually find more I'm told.... And they are right! Set the hook and thunk. YES, feels like a quality fish. It feels like it's rising to jump and splash it goes! Big SMB, woot! Back down it goes digging and fighting. I get it about halfway to the boat and it jumps again. Nice action! By now, it's about rod length away from the boat and I'm thinking it's basicly done. So I reach down to grab my net and that's when the fish makes a quick turn and jumps again! FFFUUUUUU, lure pops off.

Looked and felt like a 3.5#. Maybe bigger...... or a little bit smaller, lol.

I'm hoping there's more in that spot. So I make several more exact casts. Oh no, I'm getting pecked by perch now all of a sudden. I do 1 more cast and I feel a bite. Set the hook and feels like a big fish. And the dreaded dragging motion.... FFFUUUU. Yep, another squaw. Big one. 19-20". Eagles eating well tonight.

10 mins fish frenzy for me. But other than that, it was slow fishing. I was only able to fish for about 15 more mins after this. The bite seem to be heating up, but I had to head in. Too bad.

Oh, I did snag someone's old line. They had a light brownish colored hula type twin tail grub with an EWG hook. Greenish tint line. I don't know how much line they lost, but it was a lot. Tossed that in the garbage.
