I've always heard that this lake was poor for fishing, but also held few, but very large trout. I have fished this lake only a couple times before. Twice from a boat and once from shore. The only times I have had any luck was in a boat. Nothing big, just the newly stocked trout. 10-12 inches. And that was last year! So I rarely fished this lake. Anyways my fishing buddy and I were on our way to a different lake but the weather looked kind of questionable, so we ended up at Teal Lake. He heard a rumor somewhere (?) that this year there was 1000 3-5 pound trout put in the lake on top of the annual plants that were stocked earlier in the season. I of course was skeptical. I thought to myself, yeah whatever. So were on the lake about 5:00pm and head straight for the so called (honey hole). We drop anchor and start to fish. My friend is getting bites, but nothing taking and I haven't got nothing yet. So about 10 minutes of fishing finally I see my line getting tight. Something was interested but wasn't running with it. So I pull up on my rod once and reel in the slack. I wait for a few seconds for things to settle and by this time the fish was definitely interested. I set my rod down and notice the line starting to disappear rapidly. I pick up my rod and gear up to set the hook.
The line is taught and I give it a jerk to set the hook. Then bam I'm hooked up. So I start reeling in, thinking nothing much of it, then all of a sudden my rod is bending like crazy and this fish is pulling line out. I tighten my drag up just a hare and then realized that this was some big fish! The more line I reeled, the more it kept pulling out. I was getting quite excited. We did not have a net with us this time so I had to play with him for a while. My buddy was coaching me along, while I fought to bring this fish up to the boat. When the fish was close to the boat, it would dart down again. My buddy kept trying to grab the fish when it was close but failed numerous times. And this battle went on for quite awhile (what seemed like 15min.) but, then after a fair amount of fighting the fish was tired enough for my buddy to grab this monster trout by the gills and pull it into the boat. And to my amazement it was the biggest trout I had ever landed! A 20 inch, 3 3/4 pound trout! That was so much fun, I can't wait to do that again!! That was the first fish and biggest fish caught that day.
