I decided to hit Meridian for the first time with a friend of mine. We got to the lake a little after 9am and were on the water fishing by around 9:30 am. Having never been to this lake before, we decided to just go around the lake and fish the docks.
Within the first 10 minutes I caught a largemouth that was a bit under 1 lb on a wacky rigged senko. Then my buddy catches a nice one that was probably about 2 lbs on a wacky rigged senko as well. While he was fighting the fish, a giant smallmouth that had to be pushing 4 lbs along with another largemouth pushing 3 lbs or so were chasing his fish, trying to steal the senko out of its mouth. I tossed lures at them but they weren't interested.
For the next 30 minutes or so, we came across a couple of docks holding big largemouth that would slowly swim up to our lures to investigate but would not eat no matter what we tried. So we kept on moving along. Most of my fish came on a drop shot as usual. My buddy caught a few on a spinnerbait when the wind picked up.
My biggest of the day was a 1 lb 15 oz smallmouth that was very fat. I caught a few more largemouth that were dinks but they were very fat as well. Overall, we had a good day and caught a bunch of fish. But once the sun was high up in the sky, the bite really died down and we couldn't really find the fish or get them to bite.
I will have to try coming back to this lake earlier in the morning or in the evening to take advantage of the low light conditions.
