Picked up friend Pete and headed north to try some trout fishing. Been verrry slow in the westside lakes for a couple of months now... water temps have been running in high 60's and low 70's. Got to Gissberg a bit early, had to set a spell and wait for light. Temp was 53 degrees at outset, lines in the water at 7:00 AM. Water temp still at 66 degrees. Tried Power Eggs and nightcrawlers to begin. Pete checked his bait about 8:00 and discovered our first fish... a spectacular 6" Sculpin...(on a nightcrawler) released! Half an hour later I reeled in a 10" Rainbow (red PE), lightly hooked, so released. About 9:00 Pete reeled in an 11" Rainbow (chartreuse PE), and about 10:00 I caught our last, a 10" 'Bow, hooked deep (red PE), so retained. Had numerous nibbles on worms, probably Sculpins.
Day started out fairly mild, with a sprinkle of showers, but by 10:00 we were battling heavy rain and gusty winds out of the south. Left the lake a little before noon. Fish a bit smaller than I would have expected this time of the year! Water still much too warm for good trout fishing, but cooler weather and cooler water coming our way! PTL!

I bet the brown trout and cutts of martha (wb) are pretty active they are more aggressive in warmer temps than bows. Try inflating a worm if fishing from shore or a gold rapala if trolled. Id be willing to bet you would do very well this time of year.
