Went to American Lake this morning, wanting to fish for perch. Went to the south end of the lake and caught all that I wanted. Probably caught somewhere around 50 perch, keeping 22 that were in the 10 to 12 inch area. All caught in 40 to 43 feet of water. Used a drop shot with a nose hooked one inch plastic minnow. The color was watermellonseen. I used SmellyJelly garlic flavored fish attractant, which really increases the bites. Anyway, made for a great plate of filets.

Nice, love perch! Will have to get down there to put a little more in the freezer! Thanks for the report!

That's some damn fine eating right there. Fun too.

I should ad to this report that I rarely fished schools of fish I spotted on the fish finder. In fact, though seldom seen on the screen, it was rare to go more than 30 seconds without a bite. And in most cases I would get bit as soon as my offering hit the bottom. Obviously a lot of them were smaller perch grabbing the tail of the bait, because I actually only hooked a fraction of the bites I had. Anyway, as long as I stayed in that 40 to 43 foot range and kept the bait moving by either jiggling it or slowly moving the boat, the perch seemed to be everywhere. So I guess why I'm adding to this report is to say, don't waist time looking for schools. Just put the bait down there at around that depth and start fishing. I'm sure there are other areas, but right now the south end is gangbusters!
