Fished Merwin reservoir today from my kayak. Had a consistent bite for most of the day. The morning started out with two back to back chinook smolts which I promptly released. Both bit a pink hoochie tipped with corn. Afterward there was a flurry of bites on a shallow running green hoochie including a fat 13" kokanee and several rainbow trout in the 10-12" range. I threw most of those back unless they were mortally wounded (they inhale those hoochies sometimes). There was a minor lull between 10 and 11 in the morning and then it picked back up with another kokanee, several come unhinged, more small trout, and a nice 17" trout.
Fished my standard kayak kokanee rig which is 1 green hoochie behind a green sling blade, no weight, 40 pulls. Second rod a opalescent sling blade with a pink hoochie, 1 oz, 30 pulls. All are tipped with corn and juiced with krill smelly jelly. Trolled 1.25 to 1.7 mph.
