Me and a buddy fished Campbell on the 5th. The wind had the lake covered in white caps. My 50lb thrust minkota was struggling when out in the open wind and waves. We started out pitching suspending jerkbaits up around the trees and rocks on my favorite stretch of bank. My buddy nailed a 2 1/2 lb bucket mouth on a #9 husky jerk. After covering that stretch of bank again, and catching nothing, we decided to go face the wind beat banks along the hwy 20 side. Boat control grew too outrageous so we decided to head to the "lee" side of the island. Upon finding this small area with minimal wind disturbance, I picked up my spinning rod loaded with my favorite soft plastic. Within 20 minutes I landed 3 bass, all ranged from 2lb 14 oz. to 4lbs even. As I fought the 4lb fish, she was followed by a fish that was much bigger than her. When I had the four pounder close enough to lip, I reached down for the lower jaw and the bigger fish struck at my plastic bait that was hanging out of my catch's mouth. It then spooked and headed back for cover! That was the first time I had ever seen a largemouth ever do that! I guess my favorite soft plastic bait is my favorite for a reason! All I can say is try Campbell. If it is a nice calm, sunny day, fish early and late only due to boat traffic and the dreaded jet skis. This lake is worth a look if ya don't mind small bass in the 2 to 5 pound range. If ya see a Reef Red Lund out there with my Shimano sticker on the side, don't hesitate to say hello!
