I had a great day on Kitsap today! Caught a total of seven Rainbow (one released itself when it saw my net and I released one) in just over two hours. I had my first real success trolling today. I caught four of them using a wedding ring behind pop gear and then caught a few from the bottom using Orange Gulp eggs (yes, again. If it works.....). Temperature was in the low 40's, cloudy and an ever so slight breeze. Three of the seven had weird raised reddish blemishes on them. I released the first one and then when I caught more with them I kept two (bagged intact in the freezer just incase it is an issue WDFW wants to see). Being a newbie I don't know if this is normal or not for this time of year. Nobody else on the lake knew anything about it.

Hey Ball Gawd, Thanks for the report and for taking pictures of the lesions on the fish. If I didn't know any better, I'd say I've seen these type lesions on flounder and catfish from lakes and the Sound. I would guess it came from being close to the bottom near the mud and they get infected by a type of bacteria or fungus... or it is due to pollution. You might want to take a fish physically to WDFW. They may be interested in doing some water tests on Kitsap lake.

I did call WDFW and left a message and will be calling them again Tuesday. That's the reason I kept the fish, it seemed a little fishy to me (sorry).

I finally got to meet up with the WDFW biologist yesterday. I had to call him two or three times just to do that. He did seem genuinely interested and promised to let me know the results. I will update y'all as soon as I hear anything.

There was a hazard warning posted on 9/11/13 and I spoke with the biologist posting the sign when she was posting it, she said the blue/green algae is toxic and as you noticed they had since cleared out almost all of the shoreline vegetation and lily pads, not sure if it's related.

I love this lake as its 2 miles from me and I've also had some success on trout and even more so on bass at first light in the spring/summer on top water frogs. I hope they get back to you, please do keep us informed and thanks for the report!

I just heard from Mark, the WDFW biologist for this region. He said that they weren't able to do much with the specimens I gave them since they had been frozen. I went out a few weeks ago and caught four that were perfectly clean! Mark is a really nice guy that really seems to care about his jobs and our lakes & fish. He says for us to call him anytime we notice something strange on any of our lakes. If you catch any fish with these marks he says to do your best to keep them alive and give him a call and he will have someone come get them. His cell# is 360-202-7005.

Thanks so much for the update. Too bad that they couldn't do more with the fish you sent. Having his cell number will certainly speed up the process should any more fish like the ones you caught show up on our gear. Thanks again.
