Went out to hog yesterday after work for some night time trout fishing. Got on the ice just as it was getting dark around 445 5ish. We fished till around 730 and landed well over 25 cat fish. They ranged from about 4 inches to 16 inches.
My question is, should we be taking out all the catfish we can in hopes to lessen the population? I know fish and game killed off hog some number of years ago and would hate to see them kill it off again.

Any thoughts or comments would be much appreciated!

Happy fishing

not sure I have an opinion about the catfish except that I like to eat them. Did you catch any rainbows?

Caught a couple tiny rainbows and we were fishing on the North bank just past the spring.

Good report, thanks for submitting. I love Hog, if for nothing else than to sit out of the wind, down in that hole, in such a cool setting. If i can feel the line bounce, even on a catfish I'm going to throw back, it's worth the drive.

How was the ice? Pulling away from the edges any? How thick? Thanks!

The ice is still very stable! 10"-12" all over.
I am just concerned that the cat fish will take the Lake over again. Oh well, it's nice to have a catfish fry:)
