Well the Friday afternoon weather was predicted to be nice, but no such luck! We got to the lake around 1:30 and motored up the east side about a third of the way. From there we started trolling the lake counter clock-wise. I broke out a black wooly bugger rig, with a smile blade, red beads and pink maggot, something that works well in Lake Leland, but nothing. I then tried a bright wedding ring combo and had the same result. At the north end I swapped over to a small perch Rapala, with only a #6 trailing single hook and still not a nibble. Meanwhile my friend was trying anything I still hadn't used, with the same result.

Finally, down at the SW end of the lake, with an olive wooly bugger similar to my black set-up, I hooked into one and landed it. Within minutes, my friend got one with a similar rig. A few minutes later we turned around intending to backtrack, but the ever worsening weather finally got to be too much: wind, slushy rain and cold. If the bite was on, it would be a different story, but we'd had enough.

"Ball" seems to have this lake figured out for now. The SW is where the fish seem to be. The fish finder had no hits prior to us arriving here and did go off a bit in that area. Trolling for now doesn't seem to be the way to go and I certainly can't argue with his success bottom fishing.

"Ball": I'll keep an eye open for you next time. I see you were fishing here the next day. In the winter I fish in a friend's 14' aluminum boat, but starting this weekend, I'll likely be taking out my inflatable Intex Mariner M4, with a custom hard floor and raised swivel seats.

From what I've noticed the bite seems to be starting about 12:30 and lasting about 2 hours or better. I usually get out on the lake about 10:00-10:30 just to get sufficiently cold before they start. I plan on getting out at least one of the next two afternoons (probably about 12:30, I get off work at 11:00). I plan on hitting Long Lake, Spencer Lake or Leland at least one day this weekend. My buddy wants to go, but I'm going to have to tell her that is she wants to keep going she is going to have to start trolling.

Hey Ball! A friend and I were looking at Leland for Saturday. We each have smaller boats, and will probably each be taking one of the neighborhood kids (~ 10 y.o). They're all chomping at the bits! Unfortunately the temps are 10 degrees below what they predicted only 3 days ago, but it's not supposed to rain and the wind won't be bad, so we'll likely still head out. Maybe we'll see you there? If so, we'd likely be trolling and can show you the hot spot(s).

I just saw this. I hope the day was good for you. I'm kind of detuning from nearly being blown off Kitsap Lake yesterday. By the time I got off the lake at 14:00 the rollers were nearly 2' tall. That was pretty scary in my little aluminum boat.
