Today was a beautiful day to be fishing Green Lake! Fished a Redington Classic Trout 9'0" 5wt and it performed marvelously! Nice slow roll casts were just heavenly. Seven rainbows hooked in about 1.5 hours of fishing. But the guys around me were catching even more. Ran into FishingBoy and he and his friend were just slaying rainbows at 2 or 3 times the rate I was. Another fly fisherman was knocking the new stockers pretty good with a fly under a strike indicator. The warm weather must've triggered a hatch because around 5-5:30pm the fish were going crazy on the surface. A few nicely casted prince nymphs connected with a few of those. The others were caught on buggers.
Unfortunately, this turned out to be an expensive trip for me. Lost 3 flies due to knot failure, including 2 of my go-to Orvis flies! :( The Walmart 4lb 5X tippet was not holding up! On the bright side, they were all lost fighting fish. Though they've come straight from the rearing pens, these fish have a decent amount of fight. Two of them caught on the nymph did some aquatic acrobatics show for the spectators around us. Very exciting! Redington's Classic Trout Rod gets my nod of approval. Very happy about today's results. :)
