Tight Lines!

Its nice to see some smallies have moved shallow. This week's sun should also help. Though it can be a real hassle getting through the countless rock bass bites, American Lake really has some pig smallmouth. Anyway, time to knock the winter dust off the boat. Thanks for the report.

Not that I am against kids and life jackets but only when the boat is underway a child 12 or under must wear a life jacket.

Children's Life Jackets

If your boat is less than 19 feet long, special provisions apply when children 12 or younger are on board. In general, children must wear an appropriately sized life jacket at all times while the boat is under way. This requirement does not apply if the child is below deck or inside an enclosed cabin. Also, if the boat has been inspected as a passenger-carrying vessel by the U.S. Coast Guard, children do not need to wear life jackets. As common sense would suggest, the requirement also does not apply at times and in places where “no person would reasonably expect a danger of drowning,” according to state law.

Not to be late to the party, I did not want to beat up on the guy after having a great day of fishing, but I think some facts need to be brought up.

Check: 08.60.110 - Personal Floatation Devices at this site. Pay particular attention to "B"

A. Every child 12 years of age or younger shall wear a personal floatation device while on board any vessel, except while in a cabin.
B. Every person on board a recreational vessel less than 16 feet in length of open construction shall wear a personal floatation device while the vessel is underway.
C. 33 CFR Part 175, Subpart B, 46 CFR Subchapter C, Subpart 25.25 and WAC 352-60-030 and any future amendments thereto are adopted by reference as Subsection C of Section 8.60.110 of the City Code, “Personal Floatation Devices."

City of Lakewood rules apply. I got pulled over there years ago for this but was let off with a warning. It was a Lakewood policeman out in the lake.
