I had a little bit of time this evening so I hit up Green Lake. I got to the shoreline just north and west of the rowing stands around 6:30pm, tied on an 1/8oz. gold and crimson Kastmaster, and first cast out as I'm reeling in my line just stops dead in the water. Not a tap, not a bump, it just stops. The sort of stop that makes you think you have snagged a big log. Well just a split second later that "log" started to move and low and behold, I had a nice and feisty rainbow on the line. The rod tip went way over and it even took a tiny bit of drag out as I was bringing it in. Got it up close enough to see that it definitely looked like a triploid, not a huge one, but still a nice fish. Once I had it out of the water I got some quick pictures and then let it go. It had some great color on it and was quite a nice looking fish. It was also the first rainbow I have caught in a long time (not counting Steelhead). I tried various other Kastmasters at other places for the next hour and a half or so but didn't get anything at all.
I didn't measure or weigh the fish, but after carefully looking at the pictures I estimate it to be somewhere in the 16"-17" and 1lb - 1.5lb range.
Tight lines!
