It was hard to pull away from the dock with the hot rainbow bite. But, we tore ourselves away and went up to Colyar Ledge to troll for Mackinaw. The bite was hot and heavy early, but died out late. Pautzke's Fire bait enticed the rainbows on slip sinker rigs. The Mackinaw hit Silver Horde Squid rigs with Mack's Lures Smile Blades out front baited with triangle of Northern Pikeminnow. We worked depths from 220 to 385 feet but the best bite was very early in the morning at depths of 225 to 280 feet. As always we strived to keep our lures working 3 to 5 feet off the bottom. Speeds of .9 up to 1.4 mph all worked. It was a Chamber of Commerce morning with mild temps and calm winds. The one caveat is that with the lake level coming up, there is a lot of driftwood out there to beat your boat up on. Everything from little transducer breaking/ prop blade benders to big logs that will hole your boat or take out your lower unit. Stay alert!
