Going to be a short and sweet report today!! Headed to ol' Green Lake this morning... friend Pete had a premonition that the north end would be hot. I like it when he chooses the spot, so I can blame him if "catching" is bad (no such thing as bad fishing)!! Anyway, met Pete at about 5:15 AM (like it better in the Fall when a fellow can sleep in 'til 6:00 and still get to the lake at first light). To the lake and lines in the water by 5:30. Weather very mild, 53 degrees at outset, cloudy. Water temp at the shoreline was 64 degrees. Started with fl, orange Power Eggs on one rig, piece of nightcrawler under a float on the other. Immediate hits on the worm... bobber dancing all over the place, but no hook-ups. Ten minutes in, PE rod tip does the Rainbow "boogie woogie" and I reel in my first, 11" Rainbow. From that point on, Pete and I had non-stop action... lots of bites, lots of hook-ups. Pete was using Power Dough, red and chartreuse and had his limit by 7:00. I had struggled for a while trying to control the float & worm, as a steady wind had arisen and kept blowing the float toward shore and into the bushes. Finally changed up to PE and had my limit about fifteen minutes after Pete.
Fish not huge, were hoping to hit into the trips that were planted earlier in the week, but the trout were a respectable 10 1/2" to 12". Left the lake by 7:20.
Fun to watch the Ospreys do their thing, even after the wind had picked up and put quite a chop on the water. Amazing that they can spot fish from 100' up in the air and dive on top of them! A few other fishermen arrived in the area we were fishing, but saw no other fish caught in the time we were out. Pete and I ate our lunch for breakfast and headed home. I have a mess of trout to brine and get into the smoker. PTL!
