Well the weather here in Ellensburg was windy as usual, and even a little rainy but I decided to head out to Mattoon anyways. It worked out well for me because my favorite spot was wide open. I threw on an orange kastmaster which has worked well for me all spring and tossed it out there. Very first cast I reeled in a decent 12in trout. I did this for about 5 more minutes and reeled in 4 more about the same size. Three kids rolled in on their bikes at this point and started fishing right next to me. I switched to a blue kastmaster and on the second cast I hooked into an absolute pig. I almost always throw what I catch back in the lake so I was without a net. As I watched my line start peeling out towards the middle of the lake I looked over and said, " I am going to need your help with this one." After a 5min fight I finally got it on to shore thanks to the help of those kids. When I popped the lure out of it's mouth I noticed it straightened one of the hooks of the treble. This was a big fish, I didnt get it weighed but it measured in at 26in. I left after I caught that fish and was only there for a grand total of 10minutes. It was a great day to be at mattoon, can't wait to hit it again.
