I launched at 06:30 out of Connelly Park. Bright sunshine and a slight breeze out of the south. I went west toward Rocky Ford to the end of the trees. I dropped in a couple of crawdad pots and went to fishin'. Just from the lack of other boats I had a feeling things had changed. Sure enough the fish have moved. I did pick up a couple 13-14 inchers that needed to grow for next time. I worked the area for a few hours.(SLOW learner!) Around ten I picked up my empty crawdad pots & headed for different waters. I headed south of the park a mile or 2. Reset the crawdad pots for more room in the boat.( They didn't do any good here either.) I had more pecks from perch but, no Walleye. My trolling motor decided to act up(again!). So I pulled the pots and tried to drift and fish. The wind was getting rough. So, time for another move. back to the west of Connelly. I had a long drift that produced a couple nice perch and a deeply hooked smalleye. At approx. 14:30 I finally boated a nice 22-1/4" walleye. I had come over a ledge where I got it so I picked up and made that drift again. This time I picked up a 23-1/2''! It was promptly returned after there was no way to shorten the one in the cooler no matter how many times I measured it. The winds changed and I couldn't get that same drift again. I picked up a couple Smallies & several other Perch. Called it quits at 17:00.
Slow death was what worked the best.
