After a very hectic week, was so glad to make it out on the lake yesterday. Fished 12-5pm with partly sunny skies, 10-15mph wind and air temps of about 65 degrees. Water had warmed very slightly 68.5-70.2.
Again, the Park was pretty quiet but what few there were on peddle boats and row boats.....and none of them could row a straight line. That made it interesting weaving and dodging to avoid collisions. Considering the stable weather we'd had all week we thought it would be a gangbuster fishing afternoon, but we really had to work for the fish.
Spent about 1/3 of the time trolling for trout. Marked them, but couldn't get a strike on a line on or off the downrigger. Never saw anyone on the fishing dock catch anything either. No trout at all brought aboard.
P. got the first fish and most fish but nothing of size. 9 small bass and pumpkinseeds in all.
K. boated 6 fish, 1 pumpkinseed and 4 bass.
I was really looking black and white and stinking like skunk for hours, until I decided I would just have to break down and put on a worm to save my reputation. It brought a pumpkinseed and small bass. Then I returned cranking. Finally caught in all - 7 fish, 2 pumpkinseed and 5 bass winning the big fish award with a nice 14" LB.
Good to see the larger fish starting to move and we put them back for another day. The spawn is also "late" here, so we figure the species are bedding in and perhaps caused our slower day, but it's still better than work!
