Last minute change of plans allowed me freedom to fish today. Beautiful morning and day out on the water. Was a tad bit on the chilly side though to start off. Low 50s to maybe mid 50s.

Was greeted at the launch by those friendly ducklings. They came right up to me looking for food I guess.

Swimbait, crank, wacky, and dropshot is what I started off with.

I spotted several fish in the shallows right away. ~15" or so. I couldn't get those buggers to bite.

I also spotted a lot of bluegills today. There's also lots of little fries now. I'm assuming those are bass....

Had several bites early on, but couldn't connect. They were small.

About 45mins into it, I finally hooked up and it's a dink! On the DS. Obviously post-spawn. Skinny as a rail and bottom was flaring red.

Area wasn't producing for me so I started heading out. I see my sonar light up right at the 40' mark. At first, looked like a big stump or big rock and I see a couple of large arches around it. So I turned back around and dropped my DS straight down. Now that I'm directly over it instead of passing through, it looks like it's thick with perch....

I feel a bite and set the hook. Feels small, start reeling up and it pops off. Drop it back down again and let it dance. This time, it stays hook and I feel it up. To my surprise, it's a giant sculpin. It has to have been about 7-8" long. A school of scuplin? So I drop it back down and get another fish right away. This time, it was a big perch. About 11" or so. Drop it back down to see if I could get those large arches I saw, but just felt the tiny bites, so I left there.

Caught several dink SMB on my swimbait. Finally got a decent strike and fish on. But it came off after a few seconds, bummer.

The wacky wasn't getting any love at all. Wind started picking up, so I cut it off and tied on a tube. Didn't take long to get a better SMB with it. About 13-14".

Went to a new spot and caught several more on the DS. The DS and tube were the best baits for me today.

I had on, what would have been best fish of the day, ~16" SMB. Pathetic, I know. It was caught on a DS. Pitched it right next to a boat and 1 jiggle and started swimming off with it. I had that fish on for a good 30 seconds playing with it. Thought I anchored up, but notice my boat getting too close to the other boat. So I started backing up to give myself some space. All this time, the fish is pulling drag and digging. It even wrapped me around the boat lift, but it came out easily. So I get out into the opening and start working my way to the net and it just comes off. That was lame.

The SMB in picture was caught on a DS. No bites on my crank today, so I didn't throw it that much. I think I landed 8-10 SMB today. Didn't keep track, since they weren't memorable.

Looks like the eggs have hatched and I guess it's just the males guarding the brood? Is that how it works? I tried deeper looking for the ladies, but couldn't find squat.
