All I can say is WOW!!!!! The smallies were everywhere, especially anywhere there are rocks. The fish averaged 2-4 lbs. Sorry I don't have any pictures, I was by myself.
If you want to catch quality smallmouth bass, Blue Lake is the place to go NOW before the state reclaims the lake again.
I was told the state will kill the lake again sometime next year to get rid of the spiny rays, then restock with trout.
Speaking of trout, everyone I talked to were limiting within an hour. I decided to troll for trout, with a wedding ring and Gulp maggots, from the south end by Blue Lake Resort going north and within 5 minutes, in about 6 feet depth, BAM, trout on. They averaged 13-14 inches and were they ever strong fighters.

Everyone can do the state a favor and keep all the spiny rays they catch out of these lakes (Blue & Park), to which they are legally allowed. Like most spiny rays, smallmouth bass are good eating. Add to that, not only will you end up with bigger fish in the long run, the State may just leave well enough alone if the numbers are kept in check.

dgsmith what were the bass hitting? G-Man is correct keep the spiny rays, when you see any press call the DFW and complain about any plans to rehab the lake. Best fishing in years! tell me is anyone having success with Browns?

The bass were hitting plastic grubs, beavertails and blue ribbon tail power worms. I did see some very large browns in the shallows, but when they saw me or my boat they headed for deep water. I did not hear of anyone catching the browns.

I saw some big browns last week in the shallows on blue. My neighbor caught one opening day. Also saw some big browns at park lake. Both blue and park are great for smallmouth. I use a Floating jointed rapala and zara puppy 90% of the time on blue, great topwater lures for explosive action.

Dg. I have found that the a smallies in both Park and Blue Lakes feed heavily on sculpins, so I usually toss a Jigmiester Custom Lure's 3.5" Matador Sculpin jig in Smallie Killer color. The chartruse tail drives them fish crazy when you fish the sculpin on a1/8th oz jighead
