I heard rain overnight. Woke up and checked radar. It's clear but definitely cloudy out.
A bit on the chilling side again. Yesterday, I fished only on the west side of the lake. Since it's cloudy, I figure maybe the bass are out roaming in the flats...
As I'm approaching the flats, I hit a couple of docks with my trust swimbait. Less than 5 mins after my first cast, fish on! Cast parallel on the backside of the dock. Fish felt sluggish and wasn't fighting hard. Felt small at first. Then when it broke the surface, it started going bonkers. Pretty nice SMB. My lure is choked! I also see a smaller one chasing it around. 17" @ 2 lb 8oz. Not a bad way to start the day!
I tried for about 5 mins to see if I could get that other one to bite, but nada.
I continue onto the next couple of docks and nothing. I fan cast between 2 docks and fell a bite. Set the hook and fish on! 14", didn't weigh.
Fantastic, 2 fish in less than 10 mins. Thinking it's swimbait day again.
Then NOTHING for over an hour. I checked the flats. I checked more docks. I checked the shallow docks. I checked the deeper docks. Several nibbles from perch.
I start rotating through my offerings. Finally get another SMB ~15" on a dropshot. Cast it underneath a dock to get it.
Tied on a tube with a rattle. Made a cast next to a big boat and see my line jump right after it hits bottom. BAM! Another SMB at about 13-14". It choked my tube.
I'm thinking they want the tube now.... So I start working the tube. I skipped it underneath the L portion of a dock. I felt rapid strikes. I thought it was perch at first and it got heavy. Set the hook and another nice SMB. Right on top of it's mouth, it's not going anywhere. 16", didn't weigh.
I continue along and I got to this sandy area with grass. Water was calm and very clear. Spotted 2 catfish just chilling in an open sandy ring. I was able to get directly on top of them and take a good look. Tried to take a pic through my sunglasses for better viewing. Helped a bit I guess, lol.
Spotted a ~16" LMB in the area too out in the open just cruising. I threw a senko at it. It came looking at it and kept staring at it right in it's face. It'll back off a few inches. I'll twitch it and it goes up to it again. Did this about 4 times until it lost interest and disappeared on me when I reached down to get something else to toss at it.
I continue along and had a follow on my tube as I was reeling it in. Tried and tried again but all I was getting was nips from perch.
I see another boat up ahead and they are coming my way. I decided to start heading back in. On the way back, I stopped along the west side of the lake for about 30 mins. Caught 2 dinks on dropshot. Had 2 decent SMB follows on tube. Spotted another ~16" LMB on a laydown, but had no interest. Barely moved.
