6/22/2014 12:05:00 PMYes it is. I think it's about 30" long and helps me keep the rod tip close and very still so I can detect a subtle kokanee bite. It also helps me lift the fish into the boat easier. I use to fish with 6 ft ultralite rods but medium action ice fishing rods work much better.

6/22/2014 5:42:00 PMNice haul. Ive always wanted to try jigging for kokanee its hard to break away from trolling. I have read about jigging just wouldnt know what I was doing. Do you think night is better than morning and did you use a light or chum? Thats a nice looking cooler as well.

6/22/2014 9:03:00 PMI think jigging for kokanee at night is much more productive than trolling during the day. You also land more fish jigging since all fish are hooked in the roof of the mouth and you can be more aggressive reeling the fish in. Also, there is very little fishing pressure at night and the kokanee tend to school up in more shallow water. The only downside to night fishing is being out in the dark, but I bring plenty of headlamps, flashlights, a lantern and use a good sonar/gps to find good holes and to navigate back to the boat ramp.

6/22/2014 9:11:00 PMWe don't ever use anything to chum, just look for fish on the sonar. We usually move if we don't see fish on the sonar after about 30 minutes.
