After getting skunked the last three times out on the Skagit fishing for sockeye, I decided to try something different and check out Lake Cavanaugh. Launched out around 6pm and had 1st fish on at about 6:15. Got it close to the boat and saw it was a kokanee, but instead of grabbing the net, I try to pull the fish into the boat and she comes loose. Didn't learn my lesson, and did the same thing to the next 2 kokanee and lost those too. Between the kokanee bite, I hooked into some trout. A few were around 8", and a few were no larger than a red label herring. Decided to head back to the launch around 8 and on the way back landed 2 small kokanee, this time I used the net and in the livewell they go. All fish were caught on spinners trolled behind Macks Flash Lites tipped with corn soaked in anise oil, 40 pulls back. This was the first time hooking fish with my new Folbe Jr rod holders, and they sure are sweet. No messing around with locks or pulling the rod butt out of the holder. Just grab the rod, pull and its fish on.
