Waptus is beautiful. Not the easiest to get to but if you like a good hike and fording freezing cold rivers, give it a shot.

Quality over quantity on this trip. Caught one fish each day, both very nice Dolly Varden - caught and released. Had no luck fly fishing, caught both with hard baits. No official measurement, but they were in the 16-20" range and very good fighters. Story and photos from the trip here... https://e21.exposure.co/f-i-s-h

Very impressive e21. Was that like a 12 hour hike on the NFS road? Isn't alpine fishing great? :)

Great report and some great pictures. Those are some beautiful fish for sure. I was just up at Mildred Lakes over up the Hamma Hamma road and we killed it on the cutthroat (see report) up at those alpine lakes. Nothing like catching some big fish on a hike up into the mountains - most of the fish are pretty small but sometimes you can find the lake that puts them out. Nice work man and good luck with more of em'!

Thanks guys. We hiked at a pretty fast pace out the Waptus River Trail from Salmon La Sac. Only took us about 4 hours in to the Northwest end of the lake where we camped and fished. The trail is also open to horseback so a lot of people choose to go in that way. I'll have to check out the Mildred Lakes, sounds sweet! Good luck to y'all as well.
