Thanks to recent posts by DJ Butler and others showing glimmers of hope, Fish Princess and I decided upon our local Lake Meridian for today's kokanee adventure.
Started out at about 0645. Loaned another angler my spare plug to save him a trip back home. I think this was positive fishing karma as we had a pretty active day.
Next year's fish are definitely more abundant than this year's fish and next year's are still smallish (6" - 8" mostly). We had multiple hook-ups and numerous drive-bys and long releases. Best producers today were the venerable pretty-in-pink set-up consisting of pink splatter Dick Nite dodger following closely by chrome and pink spin-n-glo and the leapin lizard dodger by Kokanee Creek Tackle followed by the black/gold spinner of the same brand. The pretty in pink combo was tipped with pink or magenta fire corn while the contrast rig was tipped with garlic bloody tuna shoepeg corn.
We C&R a few and put 5 kokes and two RBT in the box before we headed in for the day. the two trout were decent and two of the five kokes were this year's fish. Three of next year's fish were foul hooked so they went into the box as well. Got one of the trout on the downrigger at about 20'. All other fish were on surface lines with about 3/4 ounce of weight fished at 80' - 100' behind the boat.
Saw a couple of eagles, geese, ducks, and gulls to round out a nice day together out on the lake.
Was nice to meet DJ Butler out on the lake.
Thanks for taking me out to play, Fish Princess!
