My son Noah and I decided to try some bass fishing at Wildcat. We are not the most accomplished bassmasters, but we gave it a go. We started just before seven and worked the shore between the launch and the park. We were throwing shad raps with no success, so I decided to try a drop shot rig in front of one of the docks we were working over. It hit the bottom and I gave it a twitch. I saw my line tighten and move to the right so I lifted the tip, felt the weight, and crossed his eyes. After a short fight I lipped him, took a quick photo, and released the fish. I had never tried a drop shot rig until today and had beginner's luck. I kept trying the rig with no more bites. I used a 4" motor oil worm on the drop shot.

Once we reached the park, we trolled the shad raps across the deep water and I caught and released a 14" rainbow. We worked that shore with #5 shad raps in shad color and my son Noah lost two bass. One was really small and the other looked like the one pictured. We will certainly be back in a couple of days to try it again.
