Today, I wanted to try something a bit different. Had to put gas in the boat too. After doing that, I boated to the north end of the lake and hoping to target some largemouth for a bit.
As I was getting closer to the north end, I see a boat there already... Bah, so I turned towards the eastern shoreline instead and started working that section. Water was smooth as glass. It was still shady in that area, so I'm thinking, why not try top water. Started working a hollow belly, getting closer and shallower. Tried hopping it over the lilly pads too.
Then I hear/see another boat head into the northern lilly pads, getting ready to invade the other dude. lol.
About 15 mins into it, I spotted 2 LMB in about 3' of water, 1 about ~15", the other ~17". Same past my top water without even looking at it. I scramble around and toss out my swimbait, nada. Looking for my weightless worm and doh, don't have 1 tied on. The LMB swims away and I tie on a weightless just in case.
I continue the top water action for about 30 mins and nothing at all. I see/hear fish surfacing around me. I see an eagle in the sky.... It seems to be looking at my lure....... Oh no, it's swooping down towards my lure!!!!!! I yanked my line really quick and yelled. The eagle turns and perch itself up high on the tree just watching.
I start running my swimbait in the really skinny waters, right next to some reeds. Maybe 1-2' of water at most. I feel some weeds and rip it. I feel a little tick and thinking it's perch. Then I felt weight, so I set the hook and oh, has to be something decent. It jumps and I see it's a bass and maybe a LMB. Get it closer and indeed, it is a LMB at about ~13-14". I want to say it's my 1st or 2nd LMB at Sammamish this year.
I start following the shoreline heading south. At every reeds I spotted, I would burn my swimbait past it. Wind gave a nice ripple on the water, so I started tossing a spinnerbait too.
Eventually caught me a dink SMB on a swimbait. I want to say it was off a dock.
Then I caught my best SMB for the day, ~14" SMB. Swimbait right at boat side.
Caught several more dinks on the swimbait after that. Caught a couple more dink on DS under docks.
I was packing up and spotted a wood laydown. All I had left was a tube on deck, so I tossed that into it. Tick and line jumps. Set the hook and feels like a feisty fish. Jumps and see it's an ok SMB. It was really fat @ ~14". Did a follow up cast into the tree just to see if anything else was there.
With that fish, it made me want to make more casts... So I saw a broken deep dock. I pitch my tube at it a couple of times. On the 2nd retrieve, I was reeling it pretty fast to get a new cast in when a ~16 SMB comes swimming out and tries to snatch my tube. It missed the hook. I do a follow up with it and nada. I ran a deep crank past it a couple of times without a bit. I will have to remember that one for later.
And yes, FF for sure posts the best reports / pictures on this site.
