This was not a planned fishing trip. Took my oldest daughter and her friend out to swim and ride on the tube. They could only spend about an hour and had to leave. My 6 year old son was also With us. After the girls left we had about an hour to kill before the rest of the family would arrive to also play. We hit the cove in the SW corner of the lake. I knee there were some big boulders and trees submerged there close to deep water. Had my boy throwing a Carolina rig while I threw a drop shot. I catch a perch right away and I look over to see my boy setting the hook on what I was hoping was not a tree. Fish on. He brings in a nice little smallie. Then I catch one then he catches on and then another. We both caught 3-4 each and then we had to go pick up the family at the boat launch which really upset the boy he was having the time of his life with the fast action. Was really cool the see my 6 year old able to feel and recognize the bite and rear back with a good hook set. He's either been paying attention to me or I watch too many fishing shows with him around. This was only the second time he has done this by himself he's a quick learner. Only gave it a 3 because we only fished for and hour. Who know had we had more time.
