Tough fishing. I've been down behind Spokane house and towards the nine mile dam alot this summer. I've had great success catching pike minnow, and that's it. I have gotten trout and smallies in years past in this area, but have had zero success this year. I've pulled deep divers, topwater plugs, jointed rapala's, spinner baits, all types of soft plastics on a jig, varied speeds of retrieval, with no success for anything other than pike minnow. I've been mostly hitting it from 5 -9 ish in the mornings, but last Sunday got out in the heat of the day, thinking this may be the day.

I got 2 light bumps, possible dink smallies, and that was it. no hookups. The dam is only open 1/3 of the way, and the current is minimal compared to a few weeks back when it was wide open. I had high hopes with little success. Looking for any info that may change my fortune for next time.

Thanks

Kevin

Have you tried floating a Zoom pumpkin seed trick worm Texas style no weight? Watch your line while it's floating down river (like fly fishing), if it stops or starts going upriver give it a good yank, 9 times out of 10 its fish on! Years ago I used that method in that streatch of the river and caught quite a few nice smallies. But like you mention above, some days they're in there and some days not.

Thanks for the tip. Will try on my next outing. I was pulling a 5" cinnamin power worm on Jig, but I like the idea of no weight as it is fairly shallow all over down their and the slower presentation just may be the ticket.

You might try tossing an unweighted Zoom fluke in ivory white as well. You can rig it on a straight shank rubber worm hook with the hook exposed. It has been very effective for me especially when fished as a jerk bait just under the water or as a topwater bait. It is not designed to work fast normally but I have also had success skipping it back towards me to illicit a reaction strike, this can be very effective on highly pressured waters like Samammish on the west side.
