Just bought a little 12' aluminum v-hull boat with a 7.5 hp motor and spent the last week customizing it for all the bass fishing I do. Got off work early and was anxious to put it in the water for its maiden voyage so I loaded up and hit the closest lake to me. 15 minutes later I was on the water and itching to get to fishing. Sun was shining, water was calm and 68 degrees. Made my way to the East side of Seward Park and worked the bank. Two minutes in and fish on, a little dink 11" sm bass. My fish finder was going crazy so I dropped anchor and worked a spot near a downed tree. After catching a ton of tiny perch I finally got a mean strike and my line takes off. BIG FISH ON! Put up the kind of fight I was waiting for and landed a beautiful 20" 4.4lb sm bass, the biggest I've ever caught fishing out of Lake Washington. Sent her swimming after a photo op and got back to it. Fished another hour or so caught a couple smaller ones but nothing special. All in all it was a great day out.

You remind me of my years prior to river angling; I loved pursuing Largemouth and Smallmouth. The skills I accrued from Bass fishing has certainly set me aside as river angler. Beautiful fish, thank you for sharing your adventure, the Smallmouth and congratulations on your new boat. Tight lines, AvidAngler76.

I ALWAYS see millions of school of perch in about 18 feet of water, but never can catch any smallmouth bass, shouldn't they be by the perch? Or am I searching in wrong place, thanks!

Might be UNDER the perch, or somewhere close by. Check out over deeper water, AND closer to shore, but probably at the same depth as the perch. If the Bass are closer to shore, then they will most likely be where the perch, crappy, trout will pass by a spot such as a point. Look for rocks on the bottom, the bass should be next to them and waiting for the food to swim past.

With all the perch we have, I would imagine all the bass to be 10+ pounders. I'm not convinced perch is high up on bass's favorite meal.
