This is a couple days late due to a computer monitor failure, disputed bank charge, chiropractic appt., and WORK.
I had called Ron on Sunday and asked if he would take me still fishing again. He said Tuesday (15th) at 6am. So after my success on Monday I felt pretty good.
That is until I got in his boat and watched him school me. He had, I think, 3 fish in the boat before I had my first bite.
While we had some pretty good action, as every one knows, we don't always get the fish in the boat. I know what is a bite now but either I don't jerk hard enough to get the hook into them or I don't jerk at all and just think "that was a bite". Ron said I should jerk harder. I have found that it is still hard for me to get my jerk on.
The way these kokanee are hooked is not what I am use to with trolling. All of these fish are hooked in the nose through the nose. There is nothing soft here.
We are trying to penetrate the hook point up into the bone of the top of its mouth that is underneath its nose area. He uses a smaller hook than my size 6 glo hook. I don’t think it is the hooks as it is my lack of jerk. Now this isn’t like river drift fishing where one might jerk on what one thinks is a bite. It is sight. You have to watch the rod tip all the time and jerk as the tip moves. Eye to hand coordination.
Of course he got his limit before me and just kept baiting the hook on each rod until I got my limit. It was a very enjoyable time.
I found out that while I have 4 seasons, spring, summer, fall, and winter he has many. Steelhead, kokanee, salmon, and elk. I know I left out a few, halibut?
All my fish were about 12 inches and it was foggy, during this heat wave, but not so bad as to lose our way.
