With the warm waters and hot temps lately, decided to return to ol' Green Lake, at least we know there are lots of fish in the lake. Met Pete at the east side of the lake, at the shoreline and lines in the water shortly after 5:00 AM. Only other visitors to the lakeside was a family of raccoons looking for breakfast. Air temp decidedly cooler at 57 degrees at outset, with overcast skies... water temp at shoreline still over 75 degrees. Started with Power Eggs (chartreuse) on one rig, (fl. orange) on the other. It was still quite dark, had just sat down in my "fishin'" chair, when WHAMMM... rod was pulled off the bank, into the bushes at the lakeside (chartreuse PE)... I jumped down, grabbed the rod as it was being pulled into the lake... strong fish, peeling line off my reel... strong headshakes... finally brought the fish to the net... a beautiful 16+" Rainbow. A holdover (bright red flesh). It became apparent quickly that the cooler temps had triggered a bite... By 8:00 Pete had his limit of five, including two lunkers, the biggest at 18+". Pete left the lake shortly after, and I limited by 8:45, mostly on Rainbows from 11 1/2" to 13". Fish are really getting "chunky", but it is obvious that the warm temps are stressing them greatly, as they expire quickly when brought to the bank.
Except for my first fish, on chartreuse PE, all other fish were caught on fl. orange. Great fishing this AM... the only problem is that catching a limit means leaving for home much earlier than wished. Saw several other fishermen arrive after us, and it appeared as though they were experiencing the same success as we did. PTL!
