Tough day, but there were fish to be caught. We started off with thunder and lightning that was not predicted, had no wind for a lot of the time, then the wind was up and down, up and down. Still, ..........

I caught one 17-3/4" SMB, 3 between 12 and 14", and probably a dozen that were sub 10". No LMB showed up today, and I sure did try to find them. My son could not find anything over 10", but he caught as many as I did.

There was NO pattern, except deep in the weeds and less then 10'. We tried just about everything from deep drop shot to shallow drop shot to jigs to crank baits to spinner baits and even top water. It was literally a fish here, a fish there. I have a favorite location that normally has weeds at 15' deep, with a clean rocky shore, but the weeds were gone....... weird, they were there a month ago. The weeds were still very thick, and the pads I normally find LMB in had a blocking wall of grass that prevented me from working the pads properly.

The best fishing was either over suspended weeds on long broad shallow points, or up the river as high as you could take a boat. Still, it was slow, very slow.

I am not quite sure why it was so slow, and why I could not find deep fish, but perhaps the storm that blew in later that afternoon may tell us something.

PS, we did discover that there were a lot of sub 6" bass that followed the baits in at times. There was not shortage of bass, just catchable bass. We also observed that there were hundreds of suckers skimming the surface in the upper lake just outside of the launch. Someone was bow fishing them, and they looked to be having fun. I kind of wish I had brought my bow. LOL
