I took my 4 and 6 year old daughters camping this weekend near Ellensburg. We were chased out of the mountains by the t-storms Friday night, so we ended up at Mattoon Lk mid day on Sat. Mattoon is a pleasant lake with much of the shoreline fishable from shore. Five minutes after getting out in the boat I had my first fish a smallish 10 inch rainbow using a marshmallow and worm. That proved to be the only trout we caught all weekend, but we did catch a mess of small sunfish and perch. Checking with a dozen or so others durring the weekend it seems like I had the hot action on trout! This lake is very shallow, only about 10 ft. deep and full of weeds. The prefered method looks to be bobber fishing. There is a nice small dock to fish from, so my girls had a great time catching the 2-3 inch bluegills that school around the dock. I'll have to try this lake again when the weather cools off.
