This morning, the marine layer was much lighter than yesterday. Can see some blue.

First cast at ~8:10AM. Since I had the cloud cover and water was smooth enough at the fishing spot, I decided to start off with a walking topwater. Nothing in 10 mins. Start going out deeper and changing up to crank. I'm working a point. 1st fish of the day, a perch on the crank.

Then I get to the DS in 10' of water and instantly, fish on! Nice little 14" SMB.

5 mins later, another fish in the same point and it's bigger @ 16" with the DS.

Several casts later, I snag into something and break off. Bummer. Retie and catch 2 dinks in the 10" range.

I look down and see a decent SMB swimming on the bottom of the point. It's coming towards me and now it's under my boat in the shadow. I drop my DS straight down and jiggle a couple of times and bam! Fish on! It was a fatty 15". Looked like a small football.

So in 1 hour, 5 SMB off this one point, not bad.

Tried fishing the point for another 10-15 mins without a bite before moving on. Worked along the banks for a bit with nothing but perch.

Most of the clouds burned off by 9AM and started to warm up quickly.

I move to a spot where I've caught some bass the last few outtings, but nothing this time. Did have a bite, but didn't stick. Pretty confident it was a bass. Line was swimming away, but it didn't feel big.

Worked some sharp drop-offs with timber and nothing. I boat to the other side of the lake.

Tried the swimbait for a bit without much success. Felt the perch nipping like mad. Working mainly along the bank and docks. Would weave in and out into deeper water.

I downsized and changed colors on the DS.

I get a bite on my DS on a deep dock, but it feels small. Bah, a perch but wait, what is that I see. I see a decent SMB chasing my perch trying to grab my lure from the perch's mouth. I quickly drop the line back down and see what would happen.....Nothing, so I reel in the perch and set it free. Wind picked up a bit and I get blown out into slightly deeper water ~24'. I see the bottom is marked with fish. My money is on perch, but wanted to see if I could catch whatever they are down there.

Drop line down and felt the tap. Then I see my line swimming towards the side pretty aggressively. I set the hook and doesn't feel like a perch to me! I get it up and see it's a SMB and I wonder if it was the one I spotted just a minute ago. Very similar size @ 14-15". Finally. After the good start on that 1st hour. I had to wait a little over 2 hours until I got another bass. Pathetic. But I was thinking wow, that seems deep to me, lol. Dropped the DS back down and just felt what I assume the perch biting non-stop.

I continue along that 20' range weaving in and out trying to spot anymore bait. Tried working a few more deep docks. I'm at the end of a dock and I see my sonar light up again right at 25-26'. Drop DS down and waited.
Wind blows me off a bit and I go back over. Make a cast past it and drifted pass. That was the ticket. Felt the bite and set the hook. Knew it was small, but definitely bass. Maybe 12". It's about 12PM now. Sun is high and overhead. Blue skies.

Was ready to call it quits, but I said I'll stop off at Fart Hole for about 15 mins and see if anything will bite. I get there and make several casts working my way to it. Felt the nips from perch along the way. I get to the hole and it didn't take long for a bass. I think it was the 2nd cast and it's a dandy! It stays down and I'm thinking YES! Feel the headshakes so I know it's a bass. Keeps digging down. I loosen my drag after the hook set, so my drag is now screaming. It flashes near the top wanting to jump, but I work it back down and saw it was a pretty nice SMB. It tires out and I scoop it into the net. Quality 18" SMB weighing exactly at 3 lbs even.

About 2-3 casts later, I see my line has started to swim away....I reel in a bit of slack and and get ready to set the hook but wtf, I cant feel anything at all.... I see where my line is in the water and the line is still moving. So I start reeling quicker to try and catch up. The fish was about 10' to the right of where my line entered the water and I guess there's a big bow in the line due to the depth and quick swimming of the fish? I don't know, but when I felt the heavier weight, I set the hook again and fish on! This one feels like a quality fish too. Feel the headshakes and it surfaces quickly, then dives back down. Yep, another quality SMB. Loosen drag again and zziiiippp all around for all to hear and enjoy. Scoop it into the net and measured about 17-18". I weigh it and it's almost right at 3lbs even... Hmmm, could this possibly be the same fish from 5 minutes ago? I couldn't tell from the photos on my phone, but now that I'm home, this fish does look a little shorter, but fatter. Might start weighing it in pound decimals instead of using ounces to get a more accurate measurement.

Anyways, caught either two 3lb fish, or one 3lb fish twice in 5 mins. Was still fun, LOL.

Several casts later at same hole, felt a small tap and catch a dink.

Still pounding that Fart Hole and about 10 mins, I get a 16" SMB. While removing the hook from this fish, I bent the hook, so had to retie the DS.

1st cast with the retie and BAM! Fish on! 14" SMB.

Didn't get any more bites, so I started mixing this up. Tried running a deep crank and swimbait to see if I can "fire them up". I'm pretty sure I read or saw that on tv somewhere. Nothing happened.

It's 1:15PM now and I'm thinking the hole is down and ready to head in. But just in case, lets upsize and go to the hot lure from the previous trip. 2nd cast and in BAM! Fish on! A nice 17" SMB. 2lb 10oz.

Didn't lose my lure, so I make several more casts. I feel a bite and set the hook and doh! I didn't tighten my drag up after the last fish. Fish popped off after about 2 seconds. Don't think it was that big. Maybe 13-14" class. Make couple more casts and get another 16". 2lb 4oz.

This one ripped my lure off, so I called it quits at 1:30PM.

14 SMB today. A few dinks in the mix, but majority were quality fish IMO.
