Well it had to happen eventually. Soon or later just when you think you have a fishery all figured out it will throw a curve ball at you.
I took my grand children to Loon on Saturday night with high hopes of a repeat of last week. Knew for sure they could catch some of those kokes. Well the kokanee had other ideas. We had low pressure and thunder storms for a few days prior to Saturday. We were going to go Friday night but the weather was too unsettled. Looked OK for Saturday night and the barometer started back up in the early evening.
We got all set up by 8:30 and lines in the water. The bite was sporadic and VERY lite; not a good combination to keep two active grand children interested for sure. By 11:15 I only had three in the boat. Even changed hooks to try to get them to stay on. They just bit so lite a good hook-set was not to be had. Maybe, just maybe it was the corn as I forgot to make up a new batch. It smelled and looked OK but who knows?
The moon came up somewhere around 11:30 and the bite picked up a little. Put a few more in the boat. At midnight another boat joined us and he seemed to be doing OK. Said he usually limited. We called it quits at 1 AM or so and had a nice boat ride under the starlit sky. Finished with 10 nice kokanee for me and 0 for the grand kids.....not a good way to keep them from getting bored but they stuck it out for G Pa; good job kids.
We will be out at Horseshoe for the annual family camp-out this weekend. There will be lots of perch and rock bass for them to catch; maybe some redemption for me??
Tight lines everybody - Alan
PS Anybody else find better fishing at Loon over the weekend?
