Our "lust" for perch not yet sated, beside the point that they are so much fun to catch and some of the best tasting fish in the lake, Pete and I headed back to Lake Washington. Actually, we arrived a couple of hours before daylight, trying to get into some catfish. Don't know yet where to find them... tried the Magnuson Park area at 5:00 AM... nigthcrawlers on the bottom. Had a couple of bites... reeled in one rockbass... in total darkness, but no catfish. Began to fish for perch about 7:00. Temp at 63 degrees at the outset, strong wind out of the north early on. Overcast and mostly cloudy all morning... water temp at 70 degrees at 8' deep. Fishing definitely slower than we had last week, perhaps the north wind had something to do with it? Had first hook-ups with hook about 7' under the float... landed several nice perch at that depth before they began to climb toward the surface at about 8:30. Continued to catch perch through several lulls... had to adjust hook to float depth several times, but ended up with 21 perch in the 8" to 9" range... no trophy fish, but just the right size for some great fillets. Also caught a half dozen rockbass, a few small LMB, an 8" SMB, and Pete caught the largest Northern Pikeminnow I have ever seen, maybe 15", which began to regurgitate baby fish of some type as soon as it hit the pier. Was promptly fed to the resident Great Blue Heron, "George" so it will be eating no more trout, salmon or Kokanee. Left the lake at about 12:30. PTL!
